Taj Mahal Legends- Theft in the Taj Mahal?

Legend states that a number of precious items were stolen from the Taj Mahal before the monument became national property and was under strict surveillance. Hearsay includes items like a gold leaf that covered the exterior of the Taj dome, a pearl blanket covering Mumtaz Mahal's cenotaph, diamonds and other precious stones that were encrusted in the cenotaphs etc. However, based on various original Mughal period documents, it has now been established that the certain items were indeed present in the past and are now missing. A list of the same is seen below.

Items that were indeed stolen from the Taj Mahal:

1. A gem studded gold railing around Mumtaz Mahal's cenotaph: An English traveller in 1632 wrote in his journal about a heavily jeweled gold railing surrounding Mumtaz's tomb.

2. Gold leaf covering the cast iron joints of the jali screen around the cenotaphs (picture above)

3. Numerous rich carpets that covered the tomb's interior (tomb picture below)

4. Enameled lamps from the tomb's interior

5. An entrance door made of carved jasper
