Taj Mahotsav, a festival of art, craft, culture and cuisine is held from the 18th to the 27th of February every year at the Shilpgram in Agra, just a stone's throw away from the magnificent Taj. "Taj Mahotsav", gives a beautiful glimpse of the rich heritage, a atste of the authentic Mughal cuisine and an insight of the legendary craft work whilst celebrating "Immortal Love". With its inception in 1992, this visual delight, the Taj Mahotsav continues to mesmerize tourists from not only different parts of India but from all corners of the world.

The carnival starts with an impressive procession with bejeweled elephants, adorned camels, drum beaters, craftsmen and folk artists. In an attempt to relive the the Mughal era, the pomp and glory showcased truly gives one a feeling of going back in time to the Mughal Durbars and the Nawabi style.

Classical dance performances by world class artists, musical recitals by gurus and pundits, puppet shows, original folk dances which are centuries old, the event seems to be a perfect accolade to the city of Agra for preserving and upholding the inherent culture and rich heritage century after century.

The Mahotsav is a vibrant platform that brings together India's finest craftsmen - more than 400 artisans which include wood carvers from Tamil Nadu, sculptors and potters from Haryana, other artifacts brass ware from Moradabad, shawls and carpets from Kashmir, bamboo and cane work from North East India, silk and zari from Banaras, chikan work from Lucknow, colorful lakh bangles and block printed items from Jaipur, hand made carpets from Bhadohi and dry flower made from natural ingredients and kantha work from West Bengal. Accessories made of jute like hammocks, swings, lamp shades, bags etc. make for interesting buys. A melting point of magnificent pieces of art from different corners of the country and at the most reasonable prices, is truly a shopper's delight!

As far as food goes, it doesn't get any more authentic than this, from the famous Wahid biryani and korma to the delectable kesar pulao and pasendi, from mouth watering seekh kebabs to scrumptious badam halwa. Mughlai cuisine made with age old recipes in the typical Muslim cooking style makes for an excellent authentic spread.
